Phonics and Reading

Here are some helpful phonics and early reading resources to help your child at home. As there are no home reading books going home at the moment, there are some great alternatives which you can access free of charge. Times Tables Rockstars

TT Rockstars is an online virtual learning environment which allows children to develop their ability to recall number facts quickly. There are different areas within the site for chidlren to explore. When children log on initally, they are to take part in a series of 'tests' which enables the system to assess what level your child is working at. Once this has been completed, your child will be asked questions matched to their level. There will be a mix of easy and challenging questions to ensure your child can recall simpler facts whilst also challenging them to develop their ability to recall harder ones.

TT Rockstars can be accessed here: https://play.ttrockstars.com/

There are two game modes on TT Rockstars

Mode 1 - Single Player

Garage - Children will complete questions automatically selected based on their abilities.

Soundcheck - 20 questions each with a 5 second time limit. 5 coins are earned per correct answer.

Studio - Children try to improve their speed for answering questions. The quicker their studio speed, the better their 'Rock Status'.

If you take longer than 10 secs to answer each question you are classed as a = Wannabe

Less than 10 secs per question = Garage Rocker
Less than 9 secs per question = Busker
Less than 8 secs per question = Gigger
Less than
7 secs per question = Unsigned Act

Less than 6 secs per question = Breakthrough Artist

Less than 5 secs per question = Support Act
Less than 4 secs per question = Headliner
Less than 3 secs per question = Rock Star
Less than
2 secs per question = Rock Legend

Less than 1 sec per question = Rock Hero

Certificates will be printed out for all the children with their latest 'Rock Status' when we return to school.

Mode 2 - Multiplayer

Rock Arena - Children compete against members of their class who might be online at the same time as them. Questions are based on each child's level.

Rock Festival - Similar to the Rock Arena but this time children are competing against players from around the world. Random questions selected from 1x1 to 12x12.

Rock Slam - In this mode, children can challenge people from school (even teachers) to a Rock contest.  Answer as many questions as you can within 1 minute!
